I'm speaking at my graduation in 2 days and have yet to write my speech. I have an idea as to what to focus on, but tonight I decided to read some online just for the heck of it before jumping in, and they made me doubt myself and disheartened me. So many that were hailed as great speeches were basically a long list of anecdotes from high school, some even with names attached. I feel like that's absolutely not what a graduation speech should be. Obviously that plus some jokes would be more entertaining but I didn't think the point was to entertain people but to deliver a message. Am I wrong? This has really made me doubt myself and I'm quite nervous about it now so basically I'm just looking to discuss this with people so I could decide how I should approach and clear my head again.

some ppl choose to be funny and some choose to be inspirational. for my speech last year, i decided to deliver a message. i definetely didn’t include any quotes though. what you talk about in your speech should apply to all the kids graduating. don’t include events that happened to you and your friends.

Don’t be cliche, the best speeches are funny and inspirational but in reality to have a good speech you only need one of those.

This is possibly the best graduation speech of all time.
