<p>my sister just gave her valedictory yesterday. if your school is ANYTHING like mine, there will be other kids speaking (sal, class officers) and talking about all the typical stuff: we love high school, we're going to miss football games and proms and all our friends, but now we are about to embark on a new part of our life yada yada. While very appropriate for graduation, we don't need to hear the same thing over and over again!</p>
<p>I'd take an approach, while still relevant, more divergent than the typical speech. Talk about the future or college, how to furthur our education. Or instill in your class some important life lessons. My sister's was largely a warning against being a bystander, and about how we, as a generation, wish to be remembered.</p>
