Committed or not?

My son has been accepted by a few colleges, and waitlisted by some others. He planned to wait for his waitlist decisions, but one of the colleges that accepted him says that he is committed to attend that institution because he has completed the enrollment form.

Does this sound correct?

He can back out if one of the colleges that have waitlisted him eventually accepts him.

If anything, the college has a commitment. If he has accepted an offer of admission and paid a deposit, they must have a place for him in the fall. He may not simultaneously say yes to another college, but if he is admitted somewhere else from a waitlist, and he wants to accept that offer, he may surely do so. He will need to notify the college where he has already paid a deposit, and that college will probably keep the deposit he has paid, but that’s the extent of it.

Thank you. That sounds more reasonable.
