At what point am I officially "committing" to a college?

Hi all-

I applied to a few colleges, got accepted to my #1 & #3 (still waiting to hear back from my #2) and they want me to pay admissions deposits, sign up for orientation, etc. I’m waiting to review my financial aid package from my #1, and the admission decision deadline for my #2 is June 15th.

I want to sign up for the orientations and whatnot so I don’t get left out or not get the classes I need, but am afraid doing so will bind me to a school a.) without me knowing, and b.) without having all the information I need to make the best choice in terms of financial aid.

So at what point am I officially committing to one college over another?

Thanks

Paying a deposit does not commit you to a college. You can decide not to show up.

What does then?

you need to accept an offer from #1 or #3 before it expires if that deadline is before June 15th. Then, by June 15th, if you hear back from #2 and you like their offer better then you accept it and contact the college where you already accepted an offer to say you aren’t coming after all. You will likely lose any deposits you have paid to them.
