Common App Arts Supplement

As an art student at my high school, I worked with my art teacher to put together a portfolio of my work. It encompasses the standard 10-15 pieces, and I've uploaded it to my website. Anyways, while filling out the Common App Art Supplement for one of my schools, I encounter several problems, and neither my guidance counselor nor my art teacher really knows what to do. The first is when you check the box at the top of the supplement for the medium you want to show talent in- in my case "Visual Arts". Once I checked that box, a drop down menu opened, with options like "Drawing", "Painting" and "Photography". These simply have short little boxes next to them. I'm wondering what I'm supposed to put in these boxes- my guidance counselor suggested I just leave an "x" to indicate where my talents are, but I'm wondering if this is right.

The next issue, and the biggest one, is where the Supplement wants me to supply a link where colleges can listen to a "10 minute sample of your work contrasting technique and expression". I have no idea what to do here. My portfolio is a normal visual arts portfolio, and my teacher just thinks I should set it to a slideshow/video lasting 10 minutes. However, under this format each piece is just sitting on screen for about 45 seconds in order to fill the 10 minute requirement and this just doesn't seem right to me. Perhaps this is just the nervous ramblings of a perspective college student, but if anyone could offer any help I would appreciate it.

i don’t think it’s necessary to post a link for any video or audio

Lol you’ve probably already applied but just as a note I’m pretty sure that the “10 minute sample of your work contrasting technique and expression” is just for music. I did that supplement for music and sent in a recording (no video). But I think that colleges would at least find it amusing if you did a 10 minute slideshow.

The point it for them to get to see your work. If the formats not exactly what they wanted it wont be a huge deal. As long as you showed them your portfolio in some format you’ll be okay.
