Hello College Confidential! I am hoping a few of you can throw me a bone and give some helpful advice.

I am a current undergraduate in the process of transferring. I have never needed to write a college essay before (for applying to schools). I would like to think I am somewhat talented in writing but I am having a bit of a mental block figuring out what to write.

This is the prompt I was provided with:

Please provide a statement that addresses your reasons for transferring and the objectives you hope to achieve. (250-650 words)

I thought that college essays were mainly personal anecdotes on achievements and the like. Although I can do this prompt, should I weave in things like my personal experiences? Or should it be very clear cut and follow the prompt as close as possible?

Also, a few of my colleges do not have a writing supplement- so this would be the only time they would get to hear my voice on paper. Should I doctor the essay in any way to appeal to those schools who do not require an essay (since I am a transfer)?

Any tips for melting the dreaded brain freeze and clearing the brain fog?

Any things about the Common App I should know?

Any general advice I am much obliged to!

Thanks!
