Common app essay length please!

<p>Hi,
My little brother is finishing his essay and for the life of me I can't remember how long it should be. Right now his is 987, so about 2 3/4 pages. </p>

<p>His GPA is pretty good for his schools, but he's applying to big schools like Temple University and his SAT CR is pretty low. So I know his essay will be important, but I know huge schools won't read all of the essay.</p>

<p>So what should the length be?</p>

<p>That’s twice as many words as they wanted. Common App essay is usually around 500 words. Going to 987 words is way beyond and I highly doubt the admins will enjoy reading an essay of two.</p>

<p>I’ve heard that it should be 500-800 words, ideally as close to 500 as possible. Tell him to cut it down and eliminate wordiness so it’s as concise and to-the-point as possible.</p>
