Common App essay length

<p>I just finished my Common App essay and it's longer than I expected--809 words. I feel it's well written, although I suppose I could trim it a little if I HAD to. Do you think 800+ words is too long? Should I shoot for 600-700 words instead? I know there's no actual word limit, but it feels a tad long.</p>

<p>By the way, I'm applying to top schools like Brown, Penn, Chicago, and Williams College, if it makes any difference (like, would those schools not be as frustrated with a somewhat long essay)</p>

<p>The prompt, if I remember correctly, states 250-1,000 words.</p>

<p>Mine was between 700-750.</p>
