Common App Essay Topics

I found out today that they are ditching the "Write about a topic of your choice" prompt for the common app this year. That being said, if you have to do a common app essay this year, which of the topics are you going to choose? I'm feeling the first one.

COMMON APP PROMPTS

-Some students have a background or story that is so central to their identity that they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story.

-Recount an incident or time when you experienced failure. How did it affect you, and what lessons did you learn?

-Reflect on a time when you challenged a belief or idea. What prompted you to act? Would you make the same decision again?

-Describe a place or environment where you are perfectly content. What do you do or experience there, and why is it meaningful to you?

-Discuss an accomplishment or event, formal or informal, that marked your transition from childhood to adulthood within your culture, community, or family.

They ditched the free choice option a year ago, actually, with the release of CA4. It’s a shame.

On a different note, I’m just going to write my essay and try and fit it to a prompt, but it will probably end up being the first one as well. I have a topic I love but it doesn’t really fit any of the prompts… yet.

That’s the situation I had. I just figured since the main reason for the essay is for the adcomms to learn more about the applicant, that the first prompt would be the best one to fit my essay too.
