Okay so let me explain my situation. I was filling out the common app and was really confused as to what to put for the race part. Both of my parents are cuban and I therefore obviously put hispanic, but for the race part I do not know what to do about putting either white or black. I have never considered myself black or white, just hispanic. I don't know what to do because I am not white, I am pretty dark, but I am afraid that if I put black the college may interpret that as african-american even though I do not think I have african heritage, just heritage from the Cuban island which is a melting pot of different races. What should I do?

Then you’re probably white; 85% of Cuban Americans are white. Ask your parents if you can for help, or read [this article](Black Hispanic and Latino Americans - Wikipedia).

OMG!!! cool!! ive neveer met/talked to a cuban person b4!!
im cuban too! (well half, my dad is cuban!)

cool to see other cubans my age back out there (other than family)

yeaaa were dark as well. i refuse to agree with the person above me. i think its black.
maybe u shud leave it blank. right? ive never seen that part on the common app. ><

Why? Definition for someone who is black:
White

If the OP does “not think [he has] african heritage,” then he’s probably white. However, he should ask his parents or relatives to confirm if he’s never asked about his racial origins, especially if he’s “pretty dark.”

It’s on the first page. “Regardless of your answer to the prior question [which asks if you are hispanic or latino], please select one or more of the following ethnicities that best describe you:”

However, the OP could select more than one race (both white and black) or choose to leave it blank if he wants, as that entire section is optional.
