Hello everybody,
I have few questions regarding the common app for transfer student, please note that I am also an international student.
I have to mention that it is quire urgent for me since i have to submit my application on 1/15, as i am running for few scholarship which had the fall semester regular deadline.
Thanks for the helpers, I appreciate it. My english in not fluent enough, I am sorry for each one who will find it difficult for reading. I welcome grammer and vocabulary corrections.

I don't have to do the TOEFL (I am also an international student) since i scored the max score in our english national exams. The university i am applying to aprroved it. where can i write it in the common app, just to make sure that the admission officer who checks my application noticed to this fact?

I am from Israel, and after high school we have a mandatory army service, I was asked to upload a document that explains why I didn't start to study at the college right after high-school. I tool advantage of the oppurtunity and upload an essay which elaborate my positions in the army as a soldier and an officer, and how the army service affected me.
Do you think that this is ok ? I wanted to take advantage of the free space to elaborate more about myself.

at the same subject, at the beggining of the education interruption document, I attached a timeline which shows the figures very clearly. I know this kind of stuff isnt common in this essays, but what do you think? it is just out of order.

Is it acceptable to add a photo from the army to one of the essays? i know that the admission officer who interviewed me was impressed with my excellence certificates from the army and I think that it may help them to get better impression of me.

As i said I am running for a full scholarship which distributed generally to first year student. the university wants me to submit the scholarship application although tham I am a transfer student. Therefore i have no college official's report, no intstructor evaluation and no mid-term report (the semester started only 2 monthes ago) to submit.
Is it ok? the admission office will understand the circumstances?

what is acceptable in the states regarding recommendation letters? I have about 10 letters which I want to send. I translated all of them with a translation company. Since there is no place in the common app, you guys are sending the letters to the universities by mail ? If i translated the letters, should I attach the original ones ? there is no place except of the additional information which limited to 500kb for this kind of stuff?

I was asked to sign a lawyer on my translated high school transcripts, since the original ones are in hebrew. how the university except to get these files ? on mail ?

there is any matter of importance to attaching to the application a recommendation letter from the english preperatory course of the university i myself attending ?
I remind you guys that i have no documents and recommendation from my university since i am there only for 2 monthes.

how are you guys dealing with the limited space for additional documents in the common app ? this 500kb are def not enough for me.

regarding the financial aid files, which documents i need to translate and to send on mail to the university? anyone can pleas shed some light on this ?

my school principal wants to sign personally on my school report since she knows me very well, is it acceptable?

in case that i want to submit my application to other university, do i need to sign a lawyer on each copy of my highschool transcripts that i want to send ?

is there a place in the common app to add my national exams scores?

I debating myself about writing the details of my university advisor, who knows me and all the other students barely. what are you saying?

In israel we are calculating the secondary school grades much diff than in the states, to leave this part of the common app blank? or to try to make the adjustments to the U.S method ?

is the IB/AP rank is unike to the states? how can i know if my high school used this kind of ranks too?

can i ask someone out side of the college to evaluate me for the instructor evaluation? i have no other choice since i am at school only for 2 monthes.

I got accepted to the accelerated track for outstanding students at my college and refused to it, can i write it under academics honors section??

Thank you much guys, who ever did it to this part of my thread is an hero.
:)

Additional Information section

Yes and no. I tend to like to see applicants stick to the instructions, they asked you to upload a document explaining your gpa, they really didn’t ask for an additional essay. It’s likely not to hurt, but remember, you’re one of many applicants, follow the rules so that everyone can get a fair hearing.

Put the timeline only if it clarifies what you did.

No, don’t add a photo unless asked for one, again follow directions.

I don’t understand this. If you’re a transfer, then why don’t your have the college officia’s, instructor LORs or midterm report? Our terms last from 3-4 months, so a midterm report comes about the 2nd month of coursework.

LOR = Instructor Evaluation form. Send the number the school requires and AT MOST one additional supplemental one. Follow the instructions for each school on who can send the letters, most only permit profs & TA, so HS teachers, supervisors, etc. are often not permitted. Letters must be sent hardcopy by mail; since you’re Intl., you could contact schools and see if they accept via email. Don’t know about the translations, ask on the Intl. students forum.

Don’t know, again try the Intl. Student forum.

No.

What are you putting in there??

See #7.

Doesn’t matter, but probably won’t help; it’s what is said about you, not who says it.

See #7.

Additional Information section.

I don’t understand this question.

Your HS should explain the grading system in the school report that is included with your HS transcript.

See #7.

It depends on the instructions given by each school, usually not.

If you didn’t do it, then it’s irrelevant.

Note: It sounds like you have only attended college for 2 months and therefore are having difficulty getting Instructor Evaluations. If this is the case, you must recognize, that this is why it tends to be very difficult to transfer after a short time in college, particularly after only a semester. That is why most students apply so that they will enter the transfer school after a full year or two of college coursework.

Hi,
Thank you for your answer and for your time.
I will refer to each section of your answer, and I want to emphasize something

OK.

They didnt ask to upload a document explaining the gpa, they asked me to upload a doc explaining why i didnt start the college right after HS. is it change your answer?

OK

OK

I will explain myself better. The deadline for transfer students at all of the universities is around April, when the first finals scores arrives. I have to submit my app on 1/15, as the regular students do, since i am running for a scholarship which isn’t available for transfer students (the university asked me to fill the files although im transfer student). Point is, i have no scores yet (all the other transfer student are submmiting on April), even not mid-term.

transfer student has to have a college official to write the instructor evaluation for them, no? If im write, i have no one in my college to write this for me.

even that this is the only teacher in school that know me for more than 2 monthes?

national exams scores, merit scholarship from my school letter, C.V and etc.

ok, thought it may help.

ok

in the transfer student app we have to fill the details of our academical advisor at school. in my case, he doesnt have anything about me since we had no exams untill now. to fill his details anyway?

they ask you to explain in in US terms. we have another system of calculation. I will asl in the intl. forum

in the common app it should be common for all of the schools, no? how can i make sure im my university accepts this ?

Thank you again :)

Regarding your note:
Yes, I know this. Thank you very much.

Sorry for the miss read, no it doesn’t change my answer. It’s fine to upload the document, the problem I have is with this part:

Call the school and explain your situation and ask them what you should do. This whole thing doesn’t make much sense to me, so I can’t offer very god advice. It seems like unless they use your HS record rather than college for this scholarship, you have very little chance at getting it.

No, the college does not fill out the IE form. The College Official’s form is filled out by an administrator at your school; it varies with the school, it could be the Dean, Head of your Department, your advisor, the Registrar of the college. You need to ask to see who fills it out, it has to be someone that has access to your official record as they must state whether or not you are in good standing with the school. The Instructor Evaluation form is a LOR. Usually this is filled out by a prof or a TA who has taught you in a class, however this varies somewhat with the school. I have seen some schools that don’t require any LORs, some want 1, others 2; some limit it to someone who has taught you in a college class, others include job supervisors, etc.

Colleges are looking for IEs from someone who has instructed you in a college course. First, English prep course may not qualify, again you need to read the college websites to see who qualifies to fill out an IE. Second, it is unlikely to be a strong recommendation because it is not from a regular academic course, but this all goes back to your basic problem of trying to transfer with less only a semester completed.

In very few cases is a CV/resume needed, you have an entire section devoted to ECs to describe your activities.

If you are referring to the College Official’s form, the evaluation part of that is not very important, colleges know that whoever fills it out is unlikely to know you well, if at all. The main importance is to say that you are not on probation, have suspensions, etc.

No, the name CA is misleading in this sense. The CA system is common to all the schools, but the requirements can vary by school; this is true for who can write the IE, supplementary questions, testing requirements, and test score reporting requirements. For instance, here are two different IE policies:

These are just examples, you MUST go to the website of each college you’re applying to and read their policies for IEs, testing, etc.

ok

ok

They didnt elaborate about it.
Since the C.A IE aimed to TA or proff, I guess they want someone who knows your academical records to fill it. You can tell this by the questions in the IE for transfer student.
Did you ever see someone who gave the IE to his boss at work, they ask splicitly about academic records there in the IE.

OK. You have to understand that my situation is diff for both sides. They know that I submit the app only after 1 semeter, furthermore they encourage me to transfer.

ok

he is their POC, no? they will contact him in case they want info and scores?
I am talking about the academic advisor section at the academia section.

ok

A new question:

** After I will submit the app for one school at 15th of Jan, will i be able to submit the same app for other schools until April, when the deadline for transfer arrives?

Hey, Thank you very much ! I do appreciate your help here.
