I noticed on son's common app tonight (he has sent it to 3 colleges already) there are 3 minor errors. They are not anything anyone would ever notice unless the compared the activities section on the common app to the activity resume that he attached to the common app. One of the errors was about an award he received as a sophomore. On the common app he checked the grade 11 box, but is says sophomore on the resume. The other 2 errors he checked the wrong grade box for activities.

My question is this:

1) he has 5 more applications to do - is this worth going through and creating a new copy of the common app?
2) should he contact the 3 schools that he's already sent this appllication to let them know?

1) It would be wise to go through and recheck the boxes that were wrong
2) You could e-mail the schools so that they know the discrepancies between the resume and the common app were not intentionally made

Thank you. It does not look too hard. Son/I will email the 3 colleges it has already been sent to. Do you think it is that big a deal? I would think that it happens a fair amount of the time.

I would definitely make an alternate for the other schools. I don’t think it will be a big deal if you email the schools. They will know he is being forthcoming about the discrepancy and that looks good. :)

My S and I noticed a few small errors too. #1 his cell # is wrong… and he forgot to add one of his favorite clubs… like the OP I don’t know if this is a big enough deal to make an alternate version or not…

I would not worry about a cell phone - but if his favorite club is important to him that would be something to add - my son’s are errors. Thank you Ohio Mom. I remember my older son forgetting to answer a very important question when he applied - it was the question that asked if he had ever been arrested etc., and he left it blank!!! Of course we emailed the school - and by the way he was accepted.
