i'm a bit confused about how to go about applying online w/ the common app. do you just type out 1, and then like, click a thing saying what colleges to send it to? also, what type of file is it? could you open it, and save it and work on it a little each day or do you have to sit down and submit it in that one sitting? and when do you recommend i start filling it out, if i'm applying early. sorry for the random questions, but PLEASE, i'd love you're help! thanks

You register, and when you're done with that, there's a tab that allows you to pick which colleges you want to apply to. You can add or take off colleges as you please. It will also indicate if they have supplements. So, you only have to fill out one online app. plus the individual college supplements.
You can check a college for early action/decision, and have the app. sent there separately, earlier than the others. You can save the app. and come back to it, so you don't have to complete it and submit it in one sitting. It doesn't save it on your computer, but on the app. website. When you save the application before sending it to colleges, it's a .pdf file.
I applied early, and I started filling out basic information like name, family information, address, ECs right about now. It saves you time later on to have the basics done.

One question here. It seems like the common application doesn't truly allow you to expound on your extracurriculars. They group them into generic little subsections like "sports, clubs, etc." Am I doing something wrong or is this really the way the common application works? If so, is there anyway I can give them a better idea of my different activites, through an additional resume or something?
