Common App School Forms Portion

Figured this would be the best part of the forum to ask this, as other transfers may have experience.

I attended 3 different high schools, and 3 different community colleges. Need to send in quite a few transcripts.

Now, for the "School Forms". I just printed out the "College Report" and the "School Report".

Okay, well first, I assume I should take the "College Report" to a guidance counselor at the college I mainly attended (not all 3), correct? And for the "School Report", I should take it to the high school I graduated from, correct?

Secondly, I notice that at the bottom of both of those forms, it says something like "attach applicants official transcript". I already went ahead and paid online (my highschool and community college have an online system where you can order transcripts online) and had the transcripts sent. Did I just waste my money (lol)?

I'm also guessing I just fill out each form one, and when I take it to the counselor, they will handle photocopying it? And I should bring stamped, addressed envelopes, right?

Thanks in advance everyone

PS. I did notice a few of the colleges I'm applying to do not require the "Secondary School Report" for college applicants (just thought I'd mention that I am aware of that before someone mentions it). :p

bump bump bump

Everything you say you’ve done sounds right to me. I’m applying to some schools as a transfer and under school details they say they require school report and final report, are these mean to be the secondary school report as opposed to the college official report? And if so why do they want school report AND FINAL school report when I’m a transfer and they should just ask for the final report?

The College Official’s report should come from your CURRENT school, not necessarily the one you attended the longest.

Yes, the college will handle copies. How you deal with envelopes will depend on if you have the school send them out directly (provide addressed, stamped envelopes) or if you are going to have the forms returned to you to send (provide envelopes marked with any necessary information to help you identify their contents).

I think you should be OK with the transcripts sent separately, they should match them up with the rest of your application when they arrive.

@Der3k7: I’d double check each schools site that you’re applying to. While the common app does show all the school forms, it does not mean they are required. For example, I believe that USC (University of Southern California) does NOT require any of the school forms.

@entomom: Thank you! I went ahead and had all my transcripts sent in from each college/high school. Also, I’m a tad confused still. On a few of the school forms, it has a “Important Privacy Note”, where it says “Yes, I do waive my right to access, and I Understand I will never see this form…”.

For the school report form, that makes sense, because the counselor is the one filling it out. But for the mid-term report, how am I suppose to check off “yes” for that…I have to take the form to all my teachers to get it filled out…so obviously I’m going to see the form lol. I don’t get it.

Totally agree, that’s silly. Just fill it out and sign and don’t worry about it.

Thanks! One more question:

On another thread, an individual told me that I should have my “Common App ID” on the transcripts that are sent. Is that true? My colleges and high schools already sent them out, and I didn’t request that my Common App ID be listed. I’m kind of panicking right now, cause I spent a couple hundred dollars on having these transcripts sent out. I didn’t see anywhere that it mentioned that we should have our Common App ID listed on the transcript.

As long as your name is essentially the same on your transcripts as on your application, you will be fine.

Also, that’s doable when you go and pick up all your transcripts and send them in yourself, as you could put the ID on the envelope. But if you are having the schools send them, they’re not going to put the ID number on the actual transcript, and it’s questionable that they’d go to the trouble of writing it on each envelope. Colleges match up a lot of pieces of applications, as long as there are no glaring differences in the name, they don’t seem to have problems.

Phew, thank you.

Yeah, my name is the same on all the transcripts. Looks like I’m good to go!

sorry to ride on your post. but i have a question on essay regarding work experience or extra curricular activity. when it says 1000 characters is does not mean words but letters right?

No problemo. Yup, when it says characters, it means letters. :)

Yes, it means letters, but sometimes is also includes spaces; I can’t remember if that’s true for the CA EC short essay or not. And they usually don’t tell you if it does, you just have to put in your essay, preview and see if it’s cut off or not.
