I'm using the Common App online and theres a section for supplemental stuff. I'm confused because for Rice it takes me to a website that says this:

You may apply to Rice with the Rice application form or the Common Application. We accept and give equal consideration to both. The Rice application comes in two parts; as soon as you know you want to apply, submit Part I and we will send you Part II. Students who submit the Common Application will be sent the Rice Supplement for the Common Application to complete.

Ok...so according to this (well what it sounds like) the supplement will be sent AFTER I submit the Common App?
Does anyone have more info about how this works? I am completely confused. =/

I'm not sure...D is applying online using the Rice app at applyweb.com.

I know some of the commonapp colleges have the supplements there at commonapp.org to complete, and some link you to their site...but we haven't encountered one yet that doesn't provide the online (supplement) form(s) to complete. When you are referred back to the Rice site, does it not let you access an application supplement at all?

Have you already started? D said the Rice online app is easy to fill out....it might be easier to use their form.

Well I've basically filled out the commonapp stuff and I'm mostly done with the other supplements for other schools
I just get linked to a page that says what I posted before...that's why I'm confused. I just wanted to know if there was an essay for the Rice commonapp supplement because it might take awhile to write and I'd like to start in case there is one.
Does anyone else know??

I was under the impression that you wrote the commonapp essay or the Rice essay, but not both. (I could be wrong about this....but D insists she only has one essay to write for Rice.)

I'm pretty sure your supplement will include 'the box' though.

No worries acacia. 'The box' looks to be the most fun you will have on a college app. It is a 3"x3" empty box that you fill with something that 'pleases you'. I believe there are previous threads here on the Rice box. I gather there is no wrong or right answer, but I hear admissions may not want to see something put outside the box with a 'thinking outside the box' caption and they may not want to see any version of a rice box (think food)....apparently these two things have been 'done'.

Looking at D's papers, I see the box is part of Part II of the paper application. If you do the app online at Rice/applyweb.com, you are asked to download the signature page which includes the box.

Yeah, you submit the common app online, then they mail you the supplement which has basic info + the box and a paragraph about why you are applying to whatever college at rice.
