common app teacher evaluation- academic subject?

"Fill in the information below, and give this form...to a teacher wh ohas taught you an ACADEMIC subject."

Does band count as an academic subject?

I don't think so. Math, science, english, history, language, etc. is probably what you're looking for.

what about french?

Yeah, a language is an academic.

That being said, don't hesitate to include extra recs, if it gives a better idea of who you are. If your band director knows you well and can speak to your musical talents, it's better not to leave it out.

i don't think a foreign language teacher counts as an academic. i rmbr reading a rec form that says "foreign teachers don't count"

foreign language is considered academic by many schools, but not UChicago. As noted by others, if hte band director can speak to other qualities, such as leadership or teamwork, etc., then include it as a supplemental since it can only help. (assumes not applying as a music major)

I'm not applying as a music major, but I've been in band for 4 years, and am VP of Tri-M music honor society, a section leader in marching band, first flautist/piccoloist, and participate in spring musical pit orchestra. Do any schools get annoyed at having more than the number of recs they ask for?

do you guys know if stanford or yale consider foreign language as an "academic" subject?

hey guys im sorry i just found out that foreign teachers is considered academic by many schools. ignore my previous post.

ack bluebayou i didn't read your post....argh sorrY
