Most of my classmates from high school agonized the thought of going to a junior college, so they bravely moved away to four-year. Unlike my peers, I continued living at home and attended a community college due to financial circumstances. In addition to saving money, I decided community college would be best since I was still figuring out my major. Similar to a number of students who were at Foothill College with me, I started as an undecided major.

All of freshman year, I was taking classes to try to fulfill my General Education requirements because I did not know what I wanted to major in. After having a few talks with my aunt who is a Human Resources manager at her company, I suddenly had an epiphany—human resources is also the field that I see myself in for the rest of my life. With the help of my aunt, I then decided that I would major in Business Management in order to start my career in Human Resources.

My mother immigrated to America in 1975 with her parents and ten other siblings. They had to completely start their lives over upon arrival in America because they had nothing other than a measly suitcase. Although they came to America when they were still adolescents, it was very difficult for my mother and her siblings to attend college because in attempt to earn money for tuition, their parents expected all of their paychecks be given to them help pay the mortgage. My mother and the majority of her siblings were only able to go as far as attaining an associate’s degree. Due the difficulties in life that my mother has been through, she really tried to encourage and motivate me throughout my K-12 years by constantly telling me that education will get me anywhere that I want. She always pushed me to focus and do well in school by providing me with anything that I may have needed, such as financial help.

With all the motivation that my mother provided me, I really never had the drive to focus in school up until my first year at Foothill College. I then realized that I would no longer have the support from my mother anymore and I had to make all important life decisions on my own.

Foothill College helped as a stepping-stone for my Bachelor’s Degree but the most I would have only been able to attain there would be an Associate’s Degree. Raised by my religious grandparents and mother, I believe that Santa Clara’s Jesuit University is best for me. Not only is there a wonderful business school where I will be able to attain a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, but I will also be in the Silicon Valley: a very desirable area to live and do business, as it is a great area for commerce. I hope to get an internship next summer which will enhance my job opportunities after graduation.
