I have been trying to write different drafts on different topics,
but I just wasn't sure HOW a great essay writer would write his or her essay.
I've read a book called " 50 Successful Harvard application essays" (I'm sure everyone is familiar with this book??) but I've been also getting advices that these essays are atypical ones, so that if I'm not "up" for the challenge, I should just try to write a normal essay.
Now, I'm all confused because I thought the essays in the book were the ones I should be looking up to (meaning that essays should be something like those in the book...)

I was just wondering for those who are at top colleges already,
if you guys think that you are a great essay writer, would you mind sharing what a "winner's essay" looks like?
FYI, I'm not trying to copy or anything like that but I just want to see what great essays (meaning those that people can claim that they got accepted because of their essays) would look like, or to see several different ways one can approach an essay that I haven't thought about.

It would be great if anyone could PM me their sample/winner's essay. That would really help me alot :) thanks

bump??? or any other advice on my common app essay would be great.

Well, I dont go to a top college or ANY college for that matter (Im still in high school…but I can give you the advice my sister gave me)

Well, I feel like Harvard has a tendency to admit very stale, unmotivated writers. Perhaps, that isn’t the novel to read for advice. I discovered the best thing to do is just free your mind of any perceptions you have about what a perfect college essay feels like, reads like, sounds like and just write from the heart. I know it sounds typical…but I promise you, it really works!
When my sister gave me that advice, I took it with a grain of salt. She’s actually an award winning writer so in her case…writing from the heart it easy.College essays were easy for her because she spent so much time over analyzing aspects of her life already. She knew the ins and outs of herself. However, if your not a naturally intuitive writer then you need to do some soul searching. Nobody can tell you the perfect formula for a good essay. Write an essay that YOUR happy with and pm it over when your done.I could send you my sis’s if you want but only by special request. I have to ask her first.

Also, the best thing you can do is read lots of really interesting novels. I wasn’t born with the natural knack for writing like my sis, so my writing style fluctuates. I find I always write really well after I’ve read a good book…so read read read! and THEN write.

SHOOT. Never mind, I can’t send you her essay cuz of where your applying. She goes to Brown University. That’s where your applying, aren’t you? Well, I’ll try and get her to help you instead.
