Common App Word Count Off?

Hello--

Is it just me or are other people noticing that the Common App has a different word count total than a word processor?

I typed up an essay on Pages, which told me it was precisely at 650 words, but when I pasted the essay in Common App it was only 642. I re-read the essay and all of the words are there...not sure if commonapp just have a different system for counting words or what.

Are other people experiencing this?

Cheers,
Riley

This is likely to be a formatting problem. When you get all the way to the preview stage you’ll probably see a few line breaks or other formatting issues you didn’t intend (created when you paste into common app). Once you go back from preview to edit mode and correct these, your word count will probably true up. Don’t add 8 more words until you preview and double check all the formatting.

That is one of the known issue. Make sure you type the essay in a word processor, not directly on CA. Make use of the word count, spelling, and grammar check in the word processor. Then copy and paste it into CA. If you need to make any change, go back to the word processor and repeat the procedure.
