OK. so I am making my transcript. and i am putting in the following elements – a table showing the hours spent on the subjects, the exam durations, and the marks secured for class 9~12. also, i am attaching sheets explaining the course details. is everything alright? and do i have to get it send in the photocopies of my 10, 12 mark-sheets with it too? and i guess all will be sent with the teacher, counselor recs … so lots of questions, fire away!!

won’t your school make the transcript for you?

adrivit: What do you mean by “optional section”? I don’t think there is sucha thing. Do you mean additional info? That’s for if you moved, if parents got divorced, or some other outside factor that caused a serious change in grades or whatever that colleges might wonder about. If you don’t have anything to say there then don’t say it.

Your counselor is supposed to send a copy of your transcript. I don’t understand why you are making your transcript. At my school at least, you go up and ask your counselor to give you 8 copies of your transcript, then send the eight copies to each of the 8 schools you’re applying to (if you’re applying to 8 schools).

cafesimone: The personals statement is the same as the personal essay, which is the Common App essay where you can choose your topic (Discuss outside influence, someone important, etc.).

We don’t have a counselor.

I am the first ever applicant from my school. So, my principal hasn’t the slightest idea of the common app or anything.

I can’t even make her understand what a teacher rec is.

I’m pretty tensed …

their is an optional part in the second page about race and all … ok lets generalize is filling up the form in the entirety a necessity or too much information for the adcoms??

Generally you should fill out everything that’s not optional. You can decide for yourself whether to fill out the optional section or not. When I applied, I filled the optional section out because it took me like 5 seconds to circle a few bubbles and write down your address. But if you’re uncomfortable with it or something, you don’t have to. But complete everything that’s not optional.

You should explain your situation (international, first ever applicant from your school, principal doesn’t know what a common app is…) to the colleges in the Additional Info section. If you’re making your own transcript, you might want to call the schools and see what they want. For you they probably just want courses and grades on the transcript, and that’s it.

adrivit, your questions are no longer about the Common App for the most part, but are about the application process in general (transcripts, counselor, recs, etc.). You may get more precise answers if you post these questions as new threads in the International Students forum.

Anyone else having trouble fitting in your EC info? ugh.

^spidey, I certainly hope so.

Thanks chedva and dchow!!!

Sorry if I have asked out-of-context questions!

if i’m looking at it right, i guess our teachers/counselor HAVE to fill out the school forms online this year?

online?? really??

For the APs/IBs taken/gonna take, if I just fill in the subject and the date I am gonna take the exams without filling the grades, error messages telling you to fill in the grades occur…-.-…

This is just so frustrating…

No, you can download the forms here.

yeah that’s what colleges are saying!! so i hope they and u^^ are right!!

Commonapp tells us to “print” the teacher evaluations. Does that mean that the teachers have to fill up the thing on a computer and take a print out or something or can they just write in good old ink?? Also, for the part “what do you think of the student” can they leave it blank and attach a report they have prepared for me??

hi guys, suppose if we have won awards at science fairs, where do we put the awards under? Do we put it under the “activites” section?

About the activities section, there are up to 7 activities that we can list. So let’s say can we list Intel STS as one of the activity? Or must we only list clubs, hobbies, etc. Still quite confused over what we should list under the “activities” section.

Lastly, where do we list our unpaid jobs? I do not have any paid jobs but the unpaid jobs are really significant. Like science attachments for instance.

Pardon me, but just wanna ask one more question. How do we submit the supplement forms (ex. atheletics supplement/international supplement)? Is there a place where we can submit online? Or is it only by hard copy?

adrivit: go to the printer, print a copy of the teacher form, and fill it out by hand with a pen. The rec letter should be typed, though. They should fill in the ratings, but at the part where it asks them to evaluate you in writing, they should say, “See attached letter.”

kwaldner: If you won an award, put it in awards. In the activities section, put what activities you do. If Intel STS is an activity that you often do (like, say, a chess club or something), then put it down as an activity. If it’s a one-time thing (like a national math championship) and you won some kind of award, then put the award in the awards, like Intel STS 3rd place or something. I don’t know what Intel STS is. Put any jobs (unpaid included) where it tells you to list jobs. And I don’t know the answer to the last question.

dchow, you’re so helpful I don’t need to help out! Hey, thanks! =]

Um. I’m translating a Korean book into English this summer. (I read it early summer, contacted the author, he emailed me back with a positive answer, and now I’m translating his book, heh)

And I don’t know if this is an EC or a summer activity. It doesn’t seem so EC-ish to me as Mu Alpha Theta or Student Senate is, but it’s probably going to extend onto the school year.
Any advice on where to include this?

Oh, and NHS is school level right? ; )
