Zester: You shouldn’t really be giving much description of your activity in the activities list. It should show what you do and how often and any achievement’s you’ve gotten. I guess I’m not quite getting what you’re asking.

where is the athletic supplement on the online version of the common app? i see that you can print it out if you do it on paper but i can’t find it (i want to fill it out because i heard you should if you did varsity sports in high school). thanks!

dchow08:
Well, my question pertains to the fact that my college essay is gonna be on my extracurricular activity - which is about me being on Youth court, and how it’s changed my perspective on the world.

But then theres also a section to write about one activity.
So hence, if my main college essay is on youth court, what would I do for the activity essay? Could/should I do it on Youth Court and explain exactly what I do etc, because wouldn’t that be better than writing about a lesser, not as important/passionate EC?

Is Youth Court the only thing that you have been doing all your life?? Nothing else has ever been important to you?? You could well write your essays on Youth Court(though please try not to make it an all-n-all Youth Court essay and tell something more about you, your life, ideas, thoughts etc etc) So, for the short essay I dunno, if you have something that comes “2nd” to Youth Court do write about that!!
What’s Youth Court btw??

Oh! I thought you were talking about the EC list, not the activity essay. If you decide to focus your main essay on Youth Court, you can certainly write your activity essay (short response) on something else. You could do both about Youth Court, but I wouldn’t recommend it, if you go in-depth about Youth Court in your main essay already. You don’t want to be redundant. In the short essay, you could talk about another activity you do, what drove you to do it, and what you get out of it. I guess my question is this: If you write your whole personal essay about Youth Court and its impact on you, what new things could you include in your short essay about Youth Court? It should be clear in your main essay exactly what you do in Youth Court.

Oh, Gotcha, thats perfect then.
Since, like you said, the shorter essay would be able an activity, and what drove me to it, I guess I could allude to my time on Student Senate - how I wanted change and to be a leader (cliche, but it’s different to why I do Youth Court )

Adrivit: Well, it depends what type and where. the Youth Court where I am at has peers sentence second time offending peers to community service, classes, restitution, etc. Participants act as jurors, advocates, bailiffs, clerks, judges, etc.

BTW dchow08, you’re awesome - always answering all my questions and stuff. Thanks!

When they ask for summer work, are they asking for paid work only? Because I volunteered in the library during the summer. But I already did it in the past, so how would I state that it was done in the '08 summer?

They are asking for PAID internships ONLY. Please follow the instructions carefully!! As for the details of ur library work I am sure they can chipped in somewhere or the other!!

dchow - when I wanna take a print out of the school forms all my personal details appear on the page (clever by CommonApp!) but they are all out of place, shifted to one side or the other. Looks bogus!!!

i did, but they say it’s for the Winter 2008 applications or Spring semester. I’m totally confused - aren’t they supposed to be ready by now? I know Common APP has been out for weeks.

This isn’t associated with the Common App but I didn’t wanna start a new thread about it: On some of my apps, it asks me to put in the exact date of graduation. If you don’t know it, can you just make an educated guess? Is the exact date really all that important?

It’s probably not that important, but I do know that when I tried to just put the month and year, it wouldn’t let me. You could probably make up a date, or ask your counselor if you really want it right.

Can I create a common app account or do I have to wait for my school to tell me to? Also, is it possible to start filling out parts of the application?
