Common Application 2008-2009 Questions & Answers

On the online app, the drop-down bar for extracurriculars limits you to varsity sports. Since I have played 2 years of JV soccer, (9th and 10th) and will have played 2 years of varsity (11th and 12th), what do i do? Do I put them into 2 different activities and use up 2 spaces?

MODERATOR NOTE to “Commonapp: Elaborate on an activity…” thread:

I’ll merge this thread with: CA Q&A sticky thread.

hopeful just mark down that you played every year (mark 9,10,11,12) then in the awards part on the EC’s, put two varsity letters and thats the solution

so basically i put down non-varsity sport, explain that it was soccer, and then in the awards say 2 jv letters and 2 varsity letters?

@robert: This is getting awfully stupid now. People just aren’t using their common sense. You can put in whatever you like(except maybe when your girlfriend left you because of your choice of soap operas …). Anything that would be necessary fro adcoms to know you better and evaluate you better.

@hopeful: Yes.

I was asking what others put adrivit

It doesn’t matter what others put, my friend. It’s your life, your app, YOUR additional information. As I said, put anything you feel is important. Nothing personal, OK?

In additional information you put down stuff that you want to get across in your application that you couldn’t in the rest of your app.

Sorry if this question has already been asked, but here we go… Is there a set date that the Common App opens up the reccomendations program? I have already invited one of my teachers multiple times and she hasn’t received the invitation. On further inspection, the Common App said that a re-invite had been “scheduled” and not “sent.” If there is a date, how will I know when that will be? Thanks! =)

This is kind of a dumb question, but I noticed if I try to submit my common app, it would send it to ALL my schools that I have selected, not giving me a choice. But I don’t want to send my SAT IIs to some schools, so I was wondering how I could do this. Just take off the schools, submit, and add it later?

look up how to make alternate versions with the common app

Moderators Note: I have merged this Question About Common App thread to this FAQ.

If everybody knows that the question is dumb … why ask???

This Joke Of the Day was presented to you by the “Will Never Get Into HYP Group”.

Because I need an answer? That’s usually why people ask questions.

I have a question- where does one put National Honors Society? And how many “hours” are spent on it? AFAIK, you don’t really spend time on it…

If you don’t really spend time on it, don’t put it down. If it involves extracurricular activity, put it there. If you call it more like an academic honor, put it there. At my school it’s an EC.

Under honors, can you only put academic honors? For example, my soccer team won our soccer league, do I put that in the honors section?

In the current year courses section, it says “NOTE: This information will not print in your application.” Does this mean colleges don’t see this info?

how can i delete the athletics supplement??it is just there and i dont have anything to write on it.and the thing is i must fill in something otherwise it doesnt let me submit!..HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!

hopeful2468: Put it in EC. You should only put academic honors in the academic honors section, for rather obvious reasons.
