You select the colleges. They get the scores. No “filtering” or whatever that means. Also, you gotta write your scores in the app.

Advice: If you are new to the whole process, please browse through the lots of thread that are here. They will answer ALL your questions, (except What are my chances)! Cheers!

And THAT was an epic post!!

Pats himself on the back!

^ Good job. Pats on back

On my Harvard supplement, it asks me to list places I’ve lived. It only has room for three, but I’ve lived in 4, no wait, 5 states. (Militairy brat) So should I list the first three or the last three? (lol, can’t believe I’m asking this!)

sorry if i didnt make myself clear the first time. what i meant to ask was, how can you be sure college’s will receive your teacher’s recommendation letter? is there some sort of confirmation letter or something? and since colleges receive so many letters at one time, are they pretty good at identifying which is yours?

^I know this doesn’t apply to all colleges but a lot of them have these “checklists” online (you need to register for an account first). Some even require you to make an account so you can keep track of these things and/or apply online. Also, most of the time admissions offices should contact you before a certain date if you they still haven’t received the recommendations.

After you submit your application, the college lets you check the status of your application. They give you a link where you log-in to see what parts have been received and what haven’t. Once they receive each part of your application, they will let you know. And colleges should know which letter is yours because your name should be on the letter of rec.

if i have more extracurricular activities that won’t fit into the spaces listed, what should i do?

@sephora2: You can send in an additional resume if you like. However, if the Ecs after the first 5 aren’t that important(figure the importance yourself), I would advise you not to send in an additional resume. A laundry list doesn’t look good!

@Butternut: The last three … was that a joke?

@dr4656: Your question has been answered. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

And why is that smiley green?? Makes me look sick …

^ I meant the most recent three. 5 states. 3 slots. Which ones do I list?

2 questions…thanks guys

for the 150 word common app short answer about an activity, should i list that activity anyway in the other place for extracurriculars?

it asks for my guidance counselor’s position…what is that? Should I just write Guidance Counselor?

1.Yes.
2. Yes.

@tnb19: 1 - Yes you can. If you want to, you may even write your short essay about something you didn’t list.
2 - Your guidance counsellor can be a guidance counsellor, or a Principal, or anything else. It differs. Put down whichever is apt for you.

@Butternut: Slot 1: State just before this one
Slot 2: State before the previous
Slot 3: State before that
'Cors if there’s a state you stayed like 6 months, you may omit that and rearrange the dates a little so the state in which you stayed for a long time can come in. That would be not seen as ethical by many, so maybe on second thought you may not do that!

Thank you, Chedva!!!

thanks to both of you.

If I plan in participating in a club/sport for 12th grade, do i put a check in the box?

Yes–that’s why the box is there.

A quick question : where do you put your school officer position? on what section?

bruce leeeeee, i would put it in the activities section where it says positions held, etc.

now my question lol:

This question on future plans:
Do you intend to apply for need-based financial aid?

To be honest, I don’t expect to get a lot of financial aid from anyone, but I am planning on filling out the CSS thing and FAFSA. Does that mean I put yes?

Yeah, because you’d still be “apply”-ing.

i heard that applying for need-based financial aid could sometimes hurt ur chances, esp in skools like nyu stern??is that true?
