^ i had that question too. yes it is alright.

thank you…

for the Honors section in academics, am i supposed to put my club awards there?

like i won awards from science research, so do those go there? or are they only in the extracurricular portion???

basically, i’m confused if academic honors are just stuff like National Merit

I asked a friend about the awards section…she said it’s okay for other stuff to go in there, but that she put a full list of awards in the document she uploaded for the “additional information” section.

Now that we reached the conclusion that recommendations CAN be done online, can anybody clarify how should I (I mean, teachers) handle the translation if the recommender does not speak English?

Well the recommendations are uploaded as files (pdf or doc) so the translation can be given there itself too.

I’m confused…are there no actual “letters of recommendations” required, but rather those teacher evaluation sheets in the common application?

There is a space provided in the evaluation sheets of the Common App. However, the Teacher can also attach a “Letter of Recommendation” along with the evaluation form of the Common App. But the form HAS to be filled-up. Either the Teacher can attach a letter, or he/she can write in the space provided.

Actually, it doesn’t. Most schools will accept just a letter, the form, or a letter and the form. They care about what the teacher says, not the format in which the teacher says it.

List all the courses you are taking. That includes AP science, gym, remedial basket weaving. If you’re taking it, list it. It will be on your transcript anyway.

sorry if this question has been asked before… i couldn’t find it so far.

can you send in all of your application parts seperately to all schools, or do you have to send in everything at once? For example, can I just send in the 5 pages of the commmon app and then send everything else seperately at a later time?

Ok for common app - this is what I want to do: Send in 2 teacher recommendations and 1 supplemental one from a prof I worked with - how should I go about this?

there seem to be several ways: can you guys explain both of them to me?

Can the resume I attach in the “additional information” section be 2 pages long?

The Additional Information instructions state “…below or on an attached sheet” …not sheets, plural.

But I’ve read on different threads that it’s OK/common for a high school resume to be over one page.

Please help!

There is a place on the CommonApp under School Forms where you can invite teachers to write recommendations. Does this allow teachers to write recommendations online directly through the CommonApp website?

Is it better to print out the rec. forms and hand them to the teacher or send them an email invite so that they can write the rec. online?

Thanks for the help.

@Chedva: Really? Isn’t it taking in a bad way not to submit in the forms and just the letter? MIT says it “prefers” the form … not a question of ‘HAVE TO’ but a question ‘WOULD BE BETTER’??

@sev1991: Yes

@Moonracer: Contact the school on their process of sending supplemental recs.

@ecneics: No problem. Make sure every line is important and not a repetition of something found elsewhere in the application.

If i remember correctly, the Common App site offers the form for you to download & print out to give to your teacher, or send to your teacher as an attachment. They then have to download and print it out.

So along with ecneics’ question, what about additional information that’s more than 2 pages? Depending on how it’s formatted, my resume is one and a half (normal resume format) to two and a half (Rock Hard Apps version) pages, but I have another page for other things that need to be explained on my application. Every line in both my resume and the explanation is pertinent; do I really have to cut down on it?

Dumb question, but where do I put stuff that I did during the summer on the common app?

THanks

But I think they can actually type on it if you send it electronically to them

Extracurricular/work experience/volunteer, depending on which one it is.

Usually you print out the form for the teacher and give it to them with a preaddressed, prestamped envelope for the school you’re applying to. They’ll then fill it out and send it independently; it isn’t necessary for the recs to accompany your application. They can even be past the application deadline and not cause a problem.
