Common Application 2008-2009 Questions & Answers

yeah, you can start today.

This is the first year that Chicago is using the Common App. They may not have all the details worked out yet.

Hey I second Morganrichman’s question about the EC essay:
Does it have to be creative like an admissions or is it just formal to say what you have done?

dumb question but is the 2008-2009 common app out yet? the forms on the website are last year’s

morganrichman and Gabs91, it can be done any way you want.

And to everyone else, I honestly don’t know why there are so many problems with the common app. I"m sure it’ll all work out in a few weeks, even though I know many of you don’t want to wait that long!

Yes they’re out. That’s what everyone’s asking about. Go to commonapp.org and register. You should be able to find the new ones.

None of the schools I’m applying to use the common app. :frowning: :frowning: :(

As of a few minutes ago, the separate posting of the Homeschool Supplement was still the old form. It looks like they still have some uploading to do today.

alright thank you for answering my other question.

however, im confused about summer programs…common app wants me to upload a CEEB code, but the summer program wasn’t like a college. it was a special recognition camp for leadership and business. Should i put this under additional information then?

I can not figure out how to print off the common app blank to review, D asked me to fill in the required things other then essays. Any advice on this? And many say no supplement when there are supplements!

Since the select activity field is just a generic drop-down menu, where are we supposed to say what exactly the activity is? Do we type the name in “If relevant, describe details”?

Also, if I do community service at various places as a part of service clubs at school, should I put down the places themselves or should I write down the service clubs?

^ When I look for my supplements, it says, “No Supplement or Offline”. So I’m thinkin maybe they just haven’t uploaded them yet?

Yea… the supplements don’t seem to be working.. the one for WashU wouldn’t let me scroll down hahaha

on the family portion-i put down that my dad was deceased but should I still fill in his name and college. or should i leave it blank?

what is up with the supplements? it says there are none for my colleges… maybe they’re not uploaded yet?

what do i fill in for dates attended and degree received for a sibling who is currently in college?

I would put the expected graduation date and the expected degree.

What do we do if we do one activity year round but for more hours in the summer? Or for something like drama which is a huge commitment during tech week, etc. but not at all at other times?

How do we fill out the hours/week?

is anyone having trouble adding wellesley??

Average hours/week and weeks/year

Thanks, dchow, but what if it’s a really significant difference? Like 20+ hours/week during the summer but only 4 or 5 during the school year. An average wouldn’t give very accurate information…
