"Please provide a statement (250 words minimum) that addresses your reasons for transferring and the objectives you hope to achieve.
Note: The Common Application essay should be the same for all colleges. Members that wish to review custom essay responses will request them on their Supplement form."

I will be applying for only one school for transferring out this fall, so is it OK for me to ignore the note and talk about its clubs/classes/uniqueness of the school in specific for this transfer essay? Or just be general and talk about my wishes and stuff like that?
hMmm... What should I be writing in this essay?!

Experts, future transfer applicants help me out!!!!

While I have always told applicants to customize their essays for each school, this recent statement on the CA has just come up lately (for fr applicants as well). You should go to the CA subforum and see what other applicants are saying. If it’s just a warning by the CA, that’s different from them actually NOT letting you change your main essay, which they always let you do in the past via alternate versions.

Anybody who is submitting this year who has experience with this??

I’m on my second transfer, so I’ve written more application essays than anyone ever should and this is what I’ ve been doing: I used the CA essay to explain what was lacking at my current school and what qualities I wanted at my new school and how they would further my goals more effectively (for example: I went to a big school and I found it difficult to learn in a huge lecture hall setting. I then explained how i desired smaller classes because they facilitate a closer student/professor relationship and are better tailored to my learning style, etc.). In the supplements I talked about the specific programs and resources I was interested in at each school and how I would take advantage of/ benefit from them (for example: _______ College has a great _______ department and so I discussed how the school was an ideal choice for my major/academic interests and how it would help me achieve my graduate and professional objectives). So, just keep it general in the CA (why you want out [w/o bashing your current school] and what are you planning to gain from a transfer) and specific to each school in the supplements (why that school is a perfect match for you). Hope that helps a little, good luck to everyone!

Well the thing is, not every school’s supplements asks why you want to attend college _. And not only that, but even if they do ask why you want to attend college , most of the times, they don’t give you enough character counts to elaborate enough…

This is the problem i’m having…so I made college specific main CA essays…and planning to use alternate versions…but now theres this problem going on about CA not allowing you to change main versions or something…sigh, so tiring…

One time I needed to make my CA essay like 800 words to explain my situation. I just called the admissions office of the school to ask if that was ok and to explain why I needed the extra length and they said they preferred exceeding the word limit over leaving out important information. Plus I was able to demonstrate interest by communicating with admissions officers.

Changing essays for different schools is not a problem, as when you make an alternate version of your CA, you have to reload your essay, and therefore can use any one you like. Here is a thread that I started today on the CA subforum:
