Common application?

Ive noticed alot of emphasis is placed upon a student's commitment to a university for transfers. Doesnt the common app imply otherwise?

The common app shouldn't negatively affect your ability to get into a university, since a university's decision to accept the common application creates a binding agreement that it (the university) will not discriminate against students who use it. According to the website anyway.

I've actually wondered this myself, but I think because the majority of schools (or at least the ones I'm looking at), have more supplements for transfer applicants than for high school applicants, the schools make every avilable effort to give you a platform for showing your desire to attend. I think it's more the content of your application and what you make of it than the form you're using.

I despise Rice's essay prompt on their transfer essay. It's similar to #5 from the common app (iirc); I'd much rather do #6 (choose your own topic). Anyone think it might be a disadvantage to use the common app for rice transfer?
