I know a lot of Tufts premed students attend Tufts medical school. What are some other medical schools that a lot of Tufts undergrad students attend?

What are some prestigious ones that they attend? Like I know that at some point at least 1 tufts student has gone somewhere but what about common trends.

What is the purpose behind this question? Tufts is a well-regarded school; you aren’t going to be at major disadvantage graduating from here.

If you have ever read SDN, you know that there are plenty of people who go from state schools to “Top 20” medical schools. I see no reason that Tufts students wouldn’t do the same or better.

Tufts premeds get in everywhere! Med school admission is mainly a numbers game determined by your undergrad coursework, MCAT score, GPA, and science GPA. There are no bad medical schools in the U.S.: if you get an average MCAT score, you won’t get into med school. Tufts coursework will help you maximize it.

THAT SAID, Tufts premeds have to survive several rigorous weed-out courses, including Bio 13, Chem 1, and Organic Chem, but it’s pretty much the same at any other top school.

I know that Tufts premed go everywhere at least at some point. I think what I’m trying to ask is what are common trends?

For example my high school sends a lot of kids to Boston University… UMass Amherst…And alot of people apply there…

I got the feeling that around 100ish tufts students apply each year (is that right?) and a lot of them go to Tufts medical school (can anyone tell me how many? average percentage maybe. obviously it changes year to year). What other med schools seem to be a popular choice? Umass Worcester? BU?

ie Cornell in their health services guide says that common places where students attend… I’m guessing like at least 5+ people have to attend for it to be regarded as a common place…are SUNY state NYU University of Rochester etc.

It seems that undergrad schools have certain trends where a lot of their students seem to go. I’m looking for this kind of trend. I know that Tufts sends students everywhere. But where do large percentages of tufts students go? like 3 or more people a year…

What do you mean “recruits at Tufts?” Forgive me but I’m not well informed on the medical admission process. I thought students have to apply and then get an interview and then get accepted. So there are literally med school recruiters that go around universities choosing kids?

It means Harvard medical school comes to Tufts to solicit undergraduates in applying their for medical school.

I don’t know what the actual typical student goes to.

But you probably hear some students going to Tufts medical because Tufts has a special deal where sophomores, assuming that they meet certain standards, can have guaranteed acceptance into Tufts medical school. It’s extremely competitive, but it’s nice for students to know that they are 100% accepted into a great medical school.

But Tufts is respected in the medical world. Thus, studying there for undergraduates will “add” (i.e. give some leeway) to your GPA. Plus there are plenty of research opportunities that can give students a leg up when applying to med school.

(The acceptance rate to Tufts med school is 8% by the way).

I think I know what you’re asking here, but you’re not really going to get a clear answer from anyone. Med school admissions is such a random process that it’s hard to glean any data or discern any trend from it. (Besides, Tufts premed advising does not release info on where students are matriculating).

I guess you can predict a trend for where students apply to by looking at WHERE they are from. In most cases, students are more likely going to try to apply to schools closer to home. I know that a few of my friends from MA (who already got into the Tufts assurance program btw) are considering applying to UMASS Worcester b/c of its great price. BU is another option for those in the NE area. But seriously? No one knows for sure, especially when students are applying to as many schools as they can in order to secure an acceptance. (From what I know, that can range from 15-25 schools).

Harvard Med school grad, here, and we had Tufts undergrad students in my class, as well. Additionally, I know of Tufts undergrads who went to Hopkins, UCLA, Case-Western, Northwestern, UVA, Einstein, NYU, UCSD, and Columbia for med. school. Oh, yes, I know a Tufts grad, a local doctor, now, who went to Stanford med.
