What are some common 'safety' universities for Ivy League applicants? I know this is a really broad question and it may differ from person to person but would like to hear a general consensus. Thanks in advance!

Often a state flagship can be a safety IF you know that you’ll have all costs covered either by family funds and/or ASSURED grants, scholarships, or small student loans.

Some of the Jesuit schools can also be safeties (again, with the same financial concerns).

Some of the other mid-tier privates or other states’ flagships (again, with the same financial concerns).

If money is an issue, and you can’t be SURE that any of the above will financially work for you, then your safeties might be publics that you can commute to or other schools that you know will give you HUGE merit for your stats.

Down-selecting will involved choice of major and other non-academic aspects that are important to you…such as rural vs city…spirited rah rah atmosphere, etc.

Yeah I agree with what you said… I think I worded this question wrong. What are some common colleges that are also prestigious (not necessarily a safety) but do not match the selectivity of Ivies? Such as Tufts, Brandeis, etc

Schools that are often comparable to Ivies but have better acceptance rates include:

Tufts University,
Georgetown University,
Bowdoin College,
Carnegie Mellon,
University of Virginia,
Washington University in St. Louis,
Duke University,
Boston College,
Villanova University,
Skidmore College,
Vanderbilt University,
UCLA,
UC - Berkeley,
Reed College,
University of Rochester,
Johns Hopkins University,
Rice University,
New York University,
Emory University and many others. It depends on what you like because there are a lot of great schools.
