Hey there.

I have what I suppose is a common transfer question that's been lingering in my mind as of late, and I want to know if any of you have any answers for me.

I'm currently a Biology major at a CC. As with most science/math majors, there are quite a few classes necessary to be able to transfer out to a University.

How am I supposed to balance out satisfying my CC's requirements for an AA while also attempting to satisfy all the credits I need to be able to transfer? Also, what happens if I get over 60 credits required for an AA?

Thanks!

Are you planning on transferring asap, or are you set on earning your Associate’s first? If you’re going with the former option then focus on fulfilling general ed classes. English 101, Humanities, Calculus, etc. - save the elective options for your AA until you have enough credits to start applying to schools. I’m in a similar situation, and the advisors at my school are so pushy about taking classes like freshman seminar and art history. The problem with school-specific requirements is that all schools do not acknowledge these credits (unless you’re transferring in with an AA + attending a university that has an articulation agreement) so keep your options open! Hopefully this helped a little, and good luck.

(Oh, I think having 60+ credits depends on the school, but I’m not too sure about this.)

Thanks for the answer. :)

Yes, I plan on getting an AA and then transferring. I’m pretty sure my CC and the Uni I want to transfer to have an articulation agreement, but I’m not entirely sure.

Well in that case, if your school has any necessary electives for your AA then save those for last. Enjoy that final semester when you get there and make it stress-free as possible! & Definitely check out in-state schools + possibly neighboring state flagships if you live near a border? You definitely sound like you’ll be fine.

Happy holidays! :)
