Does NU's admissions prefer the common application or their own application or neither? I would think that they would rather see that you took time to write an essay for their own questions instead of just the basic common questions that are used for many other universities. Does anyone know if they favor those that answer their essay questions?

you still have to do their essays even if you use the common application.

you only have to do the short answers and the why do you want to go here essay if you do the common app. you don't have to do their "main" essay".

i think they say they have no preference but if you're worried i'd fill out their application just to be safe.. it probably asks the questions they are more interested in hearing the answers to.

By agreeing to accept the common application, a member school cannot discriminate common app vs. their own.

what dano said is correct. if they prefer to see responses to their own questions, there will be a supplement that has the short questiosn they want answers too.

just general information, the commonapp question is the personal statement. generally, the questions college ask for personal statement are general enough that allow them to get information about you as a person. that is the point about the personal statement. they want to see your character as you have written it, so there really shouldn't be much concern that the NU personal statement question is different than the Commonapp personal statement question
