I know it's been asked before, but I can't find it. What's the consensus--200 words too many for a 150 word limit? I really don't want to cut it anymore.

yesssssssir

wondering this as well

50 words over the limit doesn't sound thaaat bad, does it?

^ 50 words over a 500 word essay doesn't sound too bad. For a 150 word essay, you're increasing the length by 1/3rd.

And Yale makes it sound as if anything over 501 words is murder:

**My essays are more than 500 words each. Is that OK?*
We ask that you respect the word limits we suggest. Will we read the words beyond 500? Yes. But if your essays are much longer than 500 words, understand that you will not help yourself by seeming to have ignored our request.*

YIKESSS!
I hope other schools aren't so strict!

While we're on the subject, is 740 words too long for the CommonApp essay? Man...I am just too free with my words.

Omg.... Yale said that? I'm scared now...

haha, me too bob, me too.

If you go to that link, and read their response about the Short Answer, they say that two or three well constructed sentences should do it. Yikes.

no its not if it can't be reduced, just don't make it any longer

^was that in response to the 200 word thing? I already cut it down from 260.
