commonapp teacher's rec

can this be done by high school teachers or must it be done by college prof?
since it's only my first semester in college, barely any profs know me, and they don't know me well. So i was wondering if i could get my high school teachers who know me best to fill it out for me.

bump, who did you guys ask to fill out your teacher's recs?

In all of the apps I've done, the schools have required a college professor. I asked my English teacher, because that particular class was a smaller one (I go to a very large state school) and I felt I had performed at a level that reflected my abilities as a student.

If you would rather use a high school teacher, that's understandable, but I would definitely contact the schools you're applying to first. Chances are they'll say they need a college one but will let you include a rec from a high school teacher as well. But ask first, because some adcoms are strict when they ask for only one rec, and won't bother reading both.

did you use common app?
on the common app it did not indicate profs or high school teachers. And i am in a class of 1000+, i have only been to 20 lectures each, so i don't think i can get a good rec :(

I did use common app, but I think since they standardize everything, the forms don't say college profs or high school teachers more for convenience than anything else. While you can definitely use those forms, the colleges will still want you to meet their requirements in your application, so if they specify a college prof you should definitely use a college prof, unless you call their admissions office and they say it's OK to go with a high school teacher.

I'm assuming you're applying for Fall '06, so you still have a semester after this, right? If so, you can try to get into a smaller class and develop a good relationship with the prof since those apps aren't due until April 1st usually.
