Hello all,
My son is interested in Comm. Arts. However, google does not return a lot of hits in schools with such major. I found VCU. Do you recommend any other schools?
Is Visual Arts similar to Communication Arts?
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I don’t really hear the term “Communication Arts” often.
Try “Communication Design” or “Graphic Design” if that’s what you’re looking for. Those are the most communicative arts.
My son is in a communication arts program at Oregon State. It falls under the “communications” umbrella in Liberal Arts and the department is called New Media Communication. He is pursuing a BFA in Digital Communication Arts. Is that what you’re thinking of? I stumbled on the program by accident and it’s a good fit for him because #1, it’s in-state (yay!), #2 it combines art and film, which he also loves. I also had trouble finding similar programs and feel lucky that I found one close to home.
As a BFA, his course-work is Visual Arts heavy.
Thanks for the replies! I think Visual Arts is more or less the same as comm. arts. FYI, here is the link I found from VCU website (comm arts major).

I will expand my search to visual arts.
Thanks again.
@AskExperts - Here is the school my son graduated from: http://mediaschool.ohio.edu/about-the-school
The Media Arts school is part of the Scripps College of Communication.
you’ve found the #2 ranked fine arts program in the entire nation at VCU arts. Communications arts falls under the Vcu arts banner at VCU. This is one of the finest programs anywhere. However, admission will typical require a pretty
strong portfolio of work and decent gpa. The VCU arts school is considerable more selective and competitive than the greater VCU school. But its a great worth while program and reasonable price.
