Communication with the College

Let's say there is a college you really really want to get into. Could it be detrimental to have too much communication with the college? I mean calling the admissions office, any professors, email, etc.

This is a very school-specific answer. Some schools, usually the smaller LACs and such, tend to favor students who repeatedly make contact with the colleges. Other, larger universities, don't want to waste time dealing with the students to begin with. It is always a good thing to demonstrate interest in a school, however, I think it is best to use the communication card sparingly. If you need to ask a question (say about applying) try to do the research yourself and if you really can't have your question answered by the website, then contact the school. Admissions officers really don't like dealing with superficial suck up questions to begin with. As for talking with profs, the best thing to do would be to make an actual apperance on campus. If you want to better acquaint yourself with the school, nothing beats an actual experience on the grounds. No phone call or email can substitute for that.
