Communications Majors at NYU

I posted this question in a thread but It wasn't really getting answered.

I was wondering if any current or past communications majors could give me some information about the program at NYU. Is it worth the high price of attending NYU? Did you love it/hate it? What is it like?

And any other information that you deem as valuable would be GREAT! Thank you beforehand!

I'm an incoming Communications major student and everything you need to know about the program is on the website <a href="http://steinhardt.nyu.edu/education/dcc/Home/%5B/url%5D">http://steinhardt.nyu.edu/education/dcc/Home/</a>. A lot of the stuff you study is very theoretical I'm hearing from current students (since I'm not there yet and haven't actually studied it yet) and not very hands-on. However, you are required/recommended (i'm not quite sure) to intern your junior year so thats where a lot of the professional experience/hands on kicks in. Its an amalgamation of a lot of topics-- politics, speech, film, television, journalism, etc etc so its more of breadth than depth, in my opinion but it does expose you to a bigger range of things and this may be a good or bad thing, depending on you. And yes, two months ago when i was deciding whether to come to NYU for Communications or not, I thought of whether the price tag was worth it, but then again-- what undergraduate education is, regardless of your major? And the thing is, you can double-major, minor, internally transfer, etc etc so if you dont feel like you're getting the most of what you're paying you are allowed plenty of options. And the biggie of NYU is that you're in the city and the opportunities are boundless which is what is drawing people to the school and the price tag-- thats something to debate about.

Yeah, the fact that NYC has so many opportunities was one of the big selling factors for me. I love the city and I thought that eventually I might want to live and work there. NYU was originally my first choice school but I'm having second thoughts. I think that if I wanted to study business or theater or something that is more of a speciality at NYU it would be a better decision. I live in Florida and I could basically go to any FL school for free (bright futures scholarships) so I think I need to reevaluate why I really wanted to go to NYU in the first place. Do I just enjoy the thought of living in NYC or do I really want to go to NYU for 4 years? But thank you very much, your response helped me.

well if it makes you feel any better about your decision to go to NYU, I can tell you that I live in Los Angeles, and I was offered admission to UCLA with an almost full-ride, lots of scholarships and grants. And academically, UCLA isn't bad and it's debatable whether it's better than NYU or not, but of course that'd have to be based on specific departments and programs. And I did give up that opportunity to stay by home, not to be in debt, etc etc and play it safe.
