Hi, I was recently admitted to American as a CLEG major. My letter mentioned an invitation to the Community-Based Research Scholars program. Does anyone know anything about that? Thanks!

There are many opportunities at AU to be a part of programs where the students who share a common interest live together and either take a course, do research, or get involved in a common activity. Usually these programs have a professor who also acts as mentor as well as a upperclass student mentor. These programs are great ways to get to know people.The university has been expanding the number and types of programs available to students. It appears that this one is for honors students who want to get involved in the community. Here is the link specific to this program:

I was accepted to the Community-Based Research Scholars program as well!

Is there more to the program than sharing a class and housing?

I have heard of kids being admitted into AU scholars program–are they the same thing or different?

From what I’ve heard, they’re two very similar, but different programs.

I got into the AU scholars program, but I couldn’t find any info on it.

@MiniMeeny Thanks!

I’d love to meet other CBRS if you have been admitted feel free to send me a message and maybe we can connect on FB or something!

Does anyone know if it is possible to still do the program, but not live in Hughes Hall? I really want to live on the South Side of campus.

@Coloradical - Probably not. I lived in LLCs in the past and the dorm/floor is already predetermined before you get there. If you want to live on South Side, you should just not do the program.

I did an LLC before on social justice and it didn’t really do much for me. You can choose how much you participate with your floor whether it’s a lot or little to nothing. However, it seems these new LLCs are pretty cool too!

@bk4972b is it ok if I message you about more information on the dorms?

@Coloradical - Yeah, of course! I’ll do my best to answer any questions you may have.
