A private bath is one shared by you and your roommate. A connecting bath is shared by two rooms or usually 4 people, two in each room, with the bathroom in between the two rooms. It is the students responsibility to clean and provide toilet tissue for private and connecting baths.
Community bath has a bad reputation, but ask anyone who has lived on a floor with community bath and they will tell you that it is a great way to get you out of your room, onto your floor and you see other residents who live on your floor. DHFS Staff cleans the community baths daily and provides toilet tissue. Showers are private within the community bath.

Thanks for the info. Which dorms have connecting baths?

Kinsolving North Tower and areas in Jester have connecting. Duren and San Jacinto have private. The price is $500 more per long session for connecting or private bath.

So those are the only dorms who have connecting and private? Everywhere else is community?

Also, how can I sign up to get a private or connecting bath? Would I be allowed to choose? I selected the option that I was interested on my housing page.

How many people usually share community baths? How many showers, toilets, and sinks are there? Is it hard to find an open shower quickly with no problems?

nitinkarya, choosing that option on your housing contract is how you sign up for the bathrooms.

I’d go for community bath because I’d rather not clean a toilet spackled with someone’s feces. :]

There seem to be enough showers. On the unlikely chance you desperately wanted to take a shower and it happened to be the one time that all of the showers in your wing’s shower room were full, there are other shower rooms in the building.

People are all on such different schedules; it’s not like camp or something where everyone goes to take a shower at once.

I don’t believe that there has ever been a time when all 12 or so showers on my floor were full at once. There have been times I’ve had to use a shower other than my favorite shower, but never have I been forced to wait. Only once or twice have I had to walk down the hall to the other shower room.

Howerver, I usually shower around 1 PM or at 7 AM, depending on whether or not I slept the night before, so that could be part of the reason.

I don’t mind the showering part, its just the toilets.

What if a transfer applied for housing in January? Any chance of a private or connecting bath?

That is one of the most common questions we get…Any chance of a private or connecting bath? It all depends on what other students have chosen who are above you on the list. Not all students want to pay the extra $$$ for connecting or private bath.

True. I wouldn’t mind a room in Jester as long as I got a private or connecting bath.

Hi, Could anyone tell me the main differences between connecting and private bath

A connecting bathroom connects your room with another room. So four people sharing it - two sinks, one shower, one toilet. A private bathroom is in your room. so just you and your roommate sharing it - one sink, one toilet, one shower.
