Community college for International Student

I’m a international student planning to go to a community college and then transfer to a 4year university. I have some doubts:
1 - I plan to attend a CC in California and then go to a UC campus. Is it reasonable?
2 - If I try to go to a graduate school, the fact I attended a CC will be a issue?
3 - Can someone who attends a CC in California tell how it is in general?
Thanks

  1. Yes, this can be a reasonable plan.
  2. No, starting out at a CC will not be a problem.
  3. Look here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/

This is only a good plan if you can afford to pay full costs for 2-3 years at the CC then for 2 years at the UC. Can you or do you need financial aid?

If I go to a CC for 2 years and pay in full and get a good gpa will I be able to attend a big college with full scholarship or close to full scholarship?

Transfer students get very little financial aid from most schools. US citizens can’t expect anything close to a full ride as a transfer, and aid for internationals is much tougher to get.

There is no financial aid for internationals in UC or at ANY California public schools at all levels. You should seek aids from your own country.

If you need financial aid, do not go to a community college: apply as a freshman to a 4-year university that awards scholarships to international. (Almost exclusively private schools - not the UCs.)

As others said, there is almost no FA/scholarships for international transfer students.

If you are not a competitive applicant – you do not have the grades/scores/extra curriculars – to be awarded financial aid/scholarships, and you do not have the money to pay a lot in tuition, the U.S. is not the right place to come for your studies.
