Hey CC,
I'm from Melbourne, but i've been thinking of going over to the US and studying in a community college for the first 2 years before transferring over to a 4-year institution. Are there any difficulties an international student will face in term of transferring? Will it be hard for me to go to a CCC and transfer to UCB or UCLA? Thanks in advance all.

Internationalist,

I'm not sure about UCLA, but one thing to consider is that UCB does not give CCC priority to international students who otherwise satisfy CCC student status. It's probably true, however, that if you complete IGETC and pre-reqs at a CCC, then your application will be significantly stronger than an international or OOS who does not have the benefit of articulation agreements.

Looks like UCLA is the same: University of California - Counselors

Hope this helps,
Joe

Hi KGZotU,
Thanks for that link, really useful. So am i right to say that, in order of priority, it's Cali residents in CCC's, Cali residents transferring within the UC's, and then international students in CCCs?

Sorry, I'm not entirely sure. It may be that international students have more of a quota system than a priority system in some of these schools? This might be something you'd have to contact the UCs about. My gut tells me that international CCC students could even be above UC transfers...but on the other hand if there's a low ceiling on internationals then you could be below OOS transfers. And it probably varies by school.
