there are numerious universities/4-year colleges in my area that have pre-pharmacy programs. However most of them cost $11-30K. This community college (pre-pharm) LCCC costs $4K. Do many kids go from community colleges to professional pharmacy schools? Would a GPA from a university carry more weight? </p>
<p>If anyone is familair with it, Wilkes University is almost walking distance from my house... Would you start there over a community college even if it ment the possibility of not getting accepted until you got your bachelers. (Which ultimatley means the first two years tuition could have been spent at a community college and I waisted $50K+.</p>
<p>Some people have done all their pre-reqs at a community college and got into the professional program. You don't necessarly have to have a "pre-pharmacy" major. As long as you complete the pre-reqs for the college you plan to do your professional studies at, you should be fine. What I've noticed is that some of the required classes aren't always offered at a CC. Your best bet would be talking to the college you plan on doing your pharmacy schooling at. Of course the college you plan on wants you to spend your money with them. Since math and science classes at a university are supposidly better (mine said not to do them at a CC because they don't go as in depth), you might consider taking math & science at a university and the rest at a community college. Be sure that the university will accept the credits from a CC.</p>
<p>Do check the course selections for the pharmacy programs at the pharmacy school(s) you are interested in for your degree to make sure you are tracking the 'prerequisite' courses for the professional degree years. You also would want to make sure that the pharmacy school of your choice would accept your grades/credit for the CC you might attend.</p>
<p>Lastly--and perhaps more importantly--a transfer student may have additional hoops to jump through than if you had started out in the degree program from the get-go. Look through Butler University's School of Pharmacy site for a general feel of what the first two-years' courses would be, how they handle transfers, and what a transfer student would need to apply to the program. </p>
