Community college or work?

Due to some unforeseen circumstances, I wont be able to attend college for a year. People keep telling me to take gen ed at a local community college but I took 11 AP's in high school most of which I got credit for. I personally want to find a job and work for a year or get an internship. What are your opinions?

One major difference, if you attend college after graduating from HS, you MAY be considered a transfer applicant when you apply next year. The definition of a transfer varies with the college and ranges from 1 post-HS college class to less than a year of full time college coursework.

Working can affect your FA.

What colleges/universities will you be applying to? Do you have the grades and exam scores that would get you big merit-based aid if you apply as a freshman rather than as a transfer? How much money can you make during this gap year, and what would you be using that money for? Some young people have to work and save for a year or two before they can go to college at all. Is that your situation? Can you find a job, internship, volunteer position that is meaningful for your future plans?

As you can see, there are many factors that could affect your decision. Think them through, and you will be able to come up with a good plan for yourself.

Wishing you all the best!
