I had bad grades in highschool, if i go to community college will be able to transfer to a good university regradless of my hs transcript ? or will my hs transcript will prevent me from going to a good university ?

No, this can work! My son didn’t much care about high school (B’s and C’s) but got 4.0 in CC and was accepted to his top choice school with scholarship. Good luck!

It depends, if you do less than 60 credits at CC or do not obtain an associate’s degree then your HS credentials will be looked at, otherwise your good CC grades can balance out your bad HS grades. So yeah spend more time in CC so that more weight is given to your CC grades then HS grades.

Yes. Generally if you transfer to another university as a junior level transfer from CC, your high school grades will be irrelevant.

You could meet with a CC advisor to discover your options, given the CC you would attend and the state you are in. The CCs here have arrangements with public Universitys regarding admission guarantees. If you get the associates degree I think that the HS record becomes irrelavent, and credits transfer without question. Look up the articulation agreements between CCs and university’s in your state. Good luck!

Usually if you do two years (50-60 credits), your HS transcripts aren’t considered-- and even if they are they are not weighted heavily. I had a 2.8 in HS and a 3.7 at community college, Umich considers high school transcripts and they still accepted me. Nowhere else I applied (other MI publics) even considered high school. I did not need to get an associates degree and was advised not to, because I would have had to take extra classes that would not transfer and/or were not required for my bachelors degree at Umich.

You can check with universities you are considering to see if HS transcripts are considered and if so how much they are weighted. If you do well in CC for 2 years I would not worry about your high school transcripts.

Our D had low grades in HS because of health challenges. She entered CC after her JR year of HS and passing the GED. She got a 3.8 her 1st term in CC and applied to transfer. Was accepted and matriculated at a competitive private U after completing 3 semesters at CC. It worked well for her. She was in communication with the private U about her course selection so most of her courses transferred.
