Hey CCers. need help for my cousin. shes a new permanent resident to US. finished 12th in India before coming here. shes an outstanding student and has good ec's (completed numerous levels of skill in dance and recieved a scholarship to attend a prestigious school in Bombay her last two years). now that shes over here, shes weighing her college options. she wanted to go to Northwestern like me but sadly, her ACT score from this past June (22 composite) is far below their standards. now she has a predicament. she now wants to do community college for atleast a year at College of Dupage (a community college in every sense). i dont want her to do this. rather, i want her to retake the ACT in september and apply for spring semester with her improved score (i know she will improve) she was expecting a 30 on the test and shockingly got a 22. she is planning a pre-med track or biomedical engineering. she wants to go to the University of IL at Chicago. how does she measure for admission right now?( for biomed eng, she doesnt want to attend w/o getting into the program). she is from a unusual background for an indian since her parents are divorced and she lives with her mother. right now, they are very low income (less than 10k). what should she do? hope my idea for her is right.

She can take CC courses for a semester and apply to a college for Spring, they're not mutually exclusive. In fact, that's what I would suggest. It would also help her stay on par with her future classmates in terms of credits.

you can go to CC for only half a year and then apply as a transfer? i thought a transfer usually has atleast one year completed.

Is that right? I'm not entirely sure, a friend of mine is planning on attending half a year at one college and trying to transfer to another school. Maybe she was misinformed, in which case disregard what I said above.

dont take my word at all. i am trying to gather more info about CC's and transfer processes. i honestly have very little knowledge in this area and need to help my cousin who has very little knowledge about admissions here.
