Community College Transfer After Suspension

I am a sophomore at the University of Alabama and my freshman year was pretty horrible. I fell into the crowd of partying and not studying. Needless to say my gpa was 1.6 at the end of freshman year. I then took 2 summer courses and made b's in both (they were writing and I'm engineering major, I definitely struggled with them). I was then not suspended for the fall semester but allowed to return on academic probation with a contract to earn a 2.5 gap with 12 hours credit. It went great until the very end of september beginning of october. Ive become very sick to say the least and I have withdrawn to deal the medical issues. In the spring since I with withdrew I will probably be suspended. I have no financial aid at all and am working my way through this year on my own. I would like to attend a community college right down the road as to not loose a semester. I'm just not sure if they would take me though if I am suspended. Any advice is greatly appreciated or any better suggestions I will happily listen to.
