Community College Transfer Credit/Grades

I have heard that the grade you receive in a transferable CC course will not apply to your UCSD GPA, but grad schools will request transcripts from all attended colleges, so technically they will see the grade.

What I am thinking of doing is taking a course that is required for my major (chem) at a CC for a P/NP grade instead of a letter grade. I am not sure how well I will do since I am no chem major, and the last chem class I have taken was ~3 years ago.

Even though it is required for my major, does it really matter what grade option I choose? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

What class is it?

With the exception of genchem and possibly ochem, I’d advise against taking any chemistry classes outside the department, especially if they serve as prerequisites for future classes. It won’t be very fun when your protests of “but I didn’t learn that in my JC class, why do you expect me to know it?!” fall on deaf ears.

It is the “equivalent” of Chem 6B at UCSD. I believe I will not have have to take another chemistry class again after it.

You say you’re a chem major but you won’t be taking any other classes after the second quarter of general chemistry?

Something doesn’t match up.

Also: if your CC is semester-based, there’s no way it could be the 6B equivalent. Maybe half of 6B and all of 6C if it’s second-semester genchem.

? I said I am not a chem major, which is why I want to do it as P/NP if possible because I do not remember any chem from high school.

I just need a chem class to fulfill a general science requirement for my major. According to assist.org the CC class matches up with the 6B one.
