Is it hard to get a 4.0 in community college???

Depends on the study you undertake.

Engineering 4.0 is generally hard. I personally know only 3-4 people who have 4.0 @ my CC.

science can be difficult.

the CC i went to wasn't a walk in the park. Biology there was the hardest class i've ever taken. I had to work my butt off to earn that A. I dont know anybody at my CC who has a 4.0. I know of one man at my school, who started attending college in his 30's after being laid off. I'm not exactly sure what he studied, but he earned a 4.0 and will be attending UC Berkeley for engineering in the fall. I, myself, earned a 3.8 and will be attending Cornell in the fall.

yea its hard...unless you are in majors like psych, phil, business etc...science, math, engr. etc. is hard...very hard

community college kills, it drains the life from you. especially when if you have to commute

3.9 after one year

It does not drain the life out of you, but it tends to provide an uninteresting atmosphere.

Transferring after Fall semester :)

Chem engineering and I could've done it if I didn't screw off in my first semester.

It depends on the CC, how much time you have, and you definitely can't do it if you're stupid. I agree with bstewart, though, it is very unmotivating... byom.

-A

I disagree. It is not unmotivating if you go to a fun/nice cc... I was going to go to Diablo Valley College (northern California) but my parents and I decided it would be better to go to a CC where I could experience actual college life. So I went go to a CC 5 hours away (Santa Barbara City College) and i live right next to ucsb with all the other students... so its really fun, and i get motivated to do well because i dont wana mess up and leave such a nice place and since most of my friends are UC students im always motivated to go study so I can one day join them. 4.0 is hard or easy...depends if you are a Engeneering major or something easy like communications

I have 4.0 but I worked my butt off to get it, especially the honors classes (some of them were taught at a grad seminar level). It's not easy and you have to put a lot of time into it...But also, grades alone don't mean anything...you have to be involved in order to show that you are a well rounded student...so time is the key!
My graduating class had 10 Highest Honors students (3.85-4.00) and we had 2 students with 4.0 GPA :)

HelenofTroy, what cc did you go to? I see you are from Florida. Broward CC student here.

Indian River :)

Im currently a senior in hs right now.. is it true every hour of lecture is like equivilent to 3 hours of own study time??

in a CC, the lecture itself is useless, so 1 hour of studying on my own equates 3 hours of lecture.

but for a 4 hour per week class, i study 15 hours for it. so yes. I took 5 APs (in my senior year) during HS, and I can honestly tell you, even CC gives you more work than that (i am taking four classes only now)

can you give an example?? For instance, would they make you read like a whole chapter and answer all questions? or whatever.

Typically, how many questions do you have to do for math homework?

it's not about the homework, umm, reading vise, I need to read about 4 chapters for the human sexuality class the day before, something like 200 pages. Believe me, 200 pages of sex GETS BORING.

Math, umm, not a lot of HWs, but just doing HW isn't enough.

HelenOfTroy, good to see a fellow Floridian come up! Are you going to UCB this year? I forgot where you are transferring to.

To the student who asked about homework... do what you can because it is what helps you pass the class. However, I haven't had any classes that have asked me to turn in homework. You're on your own, you have the power to pass or fail, no one is going to baby you through it, look over your shoulder to make sure you do your work, etc. .. speaking of, i've gotta go study. sigh

:)

Waiting for Harvard and Georgetown...accepted to University of Miami, rejected by Yale and Middlebury... preference given to GTown SFS :)

With a year of CC done, I can actually say that I spend very little time studying- like an hour a week per class.

I am planning to study electrical engineering... My only choices were Cal Poly SLO and UCR. I am thinking of going to DVC instead. Does anyone know if its hard to get good grades at DVC?
