Community Colleges for International Students

Hello, I recently got my GED and am looking forward to start my studies in a community college in the USA. Can anyone suggest me some good less expensive colleges for international students.

The costs will vary tremendously depending on the state.

Some have low tuition but high cost of living.

You should also take into consideration the costs and types of programs at 4-year colleges to which, presumably, you will be eventually transferring.

The US Dept. of Education counts over 1000 public community colleges in the USA.
People commute to them. Nobody here is likely to be too familiar with any of them but the ones that serve their own local communities (or places they or their family/friends have lived).

It would make sense to choose a community first, then attend the CC that serves that community. You’ll need to find your own housing; you probably won’t get any financial aid. You’ll have to demonstrate ability to cover all costs in order to get a visa. Presumably you’ll arrive without a license to drive (or a car) so you’ll need to find a CC with good public transportation access to wherever you live. That won’t necessarily be easy, since many CCs are located in suburbs, which typically aren’t laid out for easy pedestrian (or bus/rail) access to grocery stores, restaurants, etc.

If you’re determined to pursue this I would think a good approach would be to find relatives, friends, or other connections who already have settled in the USA, then ask about CCs where they live and the arrangements you’d need to make.

There ARE some with dorms. I’m not sure how prevalent they are, but in NY there are at least a few: Sullivan, Adirondack, Tompkins-Cortland and Herkimer for starters. I think Manhattan Community college qualifies here as well.

They’re a great safety option for kids who don’t have the SAT scores and grades they would like, but who would still ike to go away to school…

I chose Herkimer; here’s the info on pricing: https://www.herkimer.edu/apply/financial-aid/cost-of-attendance/

What will your immigration status be?

How much can you afford to pay overall for your education? After you finish at the CC, you will probably end up transferring to a public U in that same state. So you need to think of the costs for all four years.
