Help me to find a community College

Hi guys! I’m Felipe I’m an International student searching for a Community College in the US and I really need help to choose one.
This"simple" task became a nightmare for me, 'cause is hard to find a College with all that I’m looking for:
-On-campus housing;
-Associates of Arts (AA) in Computer science;
-The tuition and fees can’t be over than $18.000 (including room and board);
It can be in any state.
So, If you know some College that fits, please tell me.
I already “google it” a lot and so far I just got one, (Hill College)
If you can help me, I really appreciate it.
Thanks guys!

I’m not sure about the cost, but here are some in NY you can consider:

Herkimer https://www.herkimer.edu/learn/programs-and-majors/

SUNY Adirondack https://www.sunyacc.edu/academics/degree-programs

Tompkins-Cortland https://www.tc3.edu/catalog/ap_degrees.asp

Here’s a list of CCs with dorms— you can go from there to look at majors and costs:

As a community college student myself, I can highly recommend Broward College (BC) in South Florida. Honestly, I have had the most amazing experience here. I am soon getting my AA, and I am sad to transfer.

BC has a good reputation in the surrounding area as well as overall education community. It has a variety of programs, and great Computer Science major. Several of my friends are actually majoring in Computer Science right now, and they love it.

The tuition and housing should be below what you are looking for. There is no on-campus housing, but there are apartments (for students) in the walking distance. I have some friends who live there and seem to like it.

There are also a lot of international students at BC.

SUNY Cobleskill, though cost is much higher than your budget. $18,000 at most schools will just cover room and board and additional costs.

Cobleskill is a 4 year school, though it does offer Associate’s Degrees.

For room and board at most schools you can probably figure $11,000 - $13,000 ballpark. That doesn’t leave a lot in your budget for Out of State tuition.

@bjkmom - Yes, it has 2 and 4 year programs. For that area, it’s considered a Community College.

Okay, so this example won’t work for you (cost of attendance including housing is 24,000), but just to explain how associates degrees work. Many transfer associates programs don’t really have majors, but advising will have a pre-computer science set of recommended classes.

https://www.bellevuecollege.edu/programs/degrees/transfer/astrack2-engr-electrical/

So for the above example, your degree would be AS Track II, not AS in Computer Science, but the class choices in the table would prepare you to transfer for a four year degree in CS.

College Navigator is a good search engine to try. You can set it to look for public and private not-for-profit 2 year colleges that offer associates degrees, and that have a tuition and fees cost for out-of-state students that is in your budget. You need to scroll through the list of states, and then set your state as “Other”.

Here is the result I just found using those criteria and also asking for housing. I set the maximum tuition & fees at $10,00 which would leave $8,000 for room and board: https://nces.ed.gov/collegenavigator/?s=all&l=92&ct=1+2&ic=2&tx=10000&ts=-2&hs=1

Here is the list narrowed for maximum tuition and fees at $5,000: https://nces.ed.gov/collegenavigator/?s=all&l=92&ct=1+2&ic=2&tx=5000&ts=-2&hs=1

There are a fair number of 4-year institutions that award bachelor’s degrees and have tuition & fees of $10,000 or less, so you might want to check through them too: https://nces.ed.gov/collegenavigator/?s=all&l=93&ct=1+2&ic=1&tx=10000&ts=-2&hs=1

Thank you so much for the help guys! I really liked all the answers. I’ll check it out.

So many community colleges fit the criteria you are looking for. I would find a region and/or area (urban, rural, town, etc.) that you want to study in and then locate the school you want that has what you want.

Check out Richard Bland College of William & Mary in VA. It is a bit above your price range, but they may offer financial aid. They have on-campus housing and is considered a 2 year public junior college. www.rbc.edu

  1. Pick where in the country you want to live
  2. Look at the State U or State colleges you would would like to attend (these are the easiest to transfer CC credits to)
  3. Residency requirements - CCs have in-county tuition…how long do you have to live there for you to be considered in-county. What is the price for out-of county tuition?
    For example:

Monmouth County Resident – A person with a permanent Monmouth County address who has lived in New Jersey for at least one year prior to the first day of instruction. Admission priority is given to Monmouth County residents. Armed Forces personnel and their dependents stationed in the county are considered Monmouth County residents.
