<p>1.) How does one record community service in the resume? By a description such as "hosted an art camp for elementary students"? Do you record hours as well?</p>

<p>2.) How does the admission counselor verify that one has done that community service and is, for example, president of his or her student council, and other EC?</p>

<p>1) title, period you were active (e.g. Summer 2013 or Oct 2012 to present), hours per week if relevant
2) no one really checks. And yes, that means people can and will fabricate false ECs. They are usually minor ones that are irrelevant. Actual, meaningful ones (won national contest, role in movie) can be easily checked or are corroborated by other recommendation docs.</p>

<p>3) Free one for you: 85% of colleges don’t care about ANY ECs at all.</p>

<p>As many high schools these days require community service hours in order to graduate, colleges tend to discount service hours – especially those that require parents to pay money for a trip to a foreign country to help the poor, or students who spend just a couple of hours per month on the activity.
